Nicki Minaj – “What Seems To Be The Issue Now?”

Yesterday afternoon, Nicki Minaj released her latest track, ‘Looking Ass Niggas’. From the moment the video was released, there has been a big uproar on both the artwork and the lyrics. This is the artwork that was put out with the track.

The track was released in the form of a video but people were in an uproar about how could Nicki use a photo of iconic Malcolm X when referring to a Looking Ass Nigga. Well after a day of Instagram and Twitter going crazy, Nicki removed the artwork and addressed the situation.

“What seems to be the issue now? Do you have a problem with me referring to the people Malcolm X was ready to pull his gun out on as Lookin Ass Niggaz? Well, I apologize. That was never the official artwork nor is this an official single. This is a conversation. Not a single. I am in the video shooting at Lookin Ass Niggaz and there happened to be an iconic photo of Malcolm X ready to do the same thing for what he believed in!!!! It is in no way to undermine his efforts and legacy. I apologize to the Malcolm X estate if the meaning of the photo was misconstrued. The word “nigga” causes so much debate in our community while the “nigga” behavior gets praised and worship. Let’s not. Apologies again to his family. I have nothing but respect an adoration for u. The photo was removed hours ago. Thank you” – Nicki Minaj

However, the uproar does not stop there. People who looked past the artwork, found a problem with the lyrics – mostly men. The song is focused on calling out “Looking Ass Niggas’ who Nicki defines in several different ways.

“Look at y’all sharin’ one bottle in the club
One bottle full of bub’ ass niggas
Look at y’all not havin’ game ass niggas
Y’all niggas share a chain ass niggas
Same cup in the hand ass nigga
In the club with a credit card scam ass nigga”

– Nicki Minaj

In spite of Valentine’s Day being tomorrow, men who felt a way by the song lyrics, took to instagram to let it be known that they will not accept being called a ‘Looking Ass Nigga’ this Valentine’s Day lol

The funniest part of all of this craziness is that Nicki Minaj is probably kicked back somewhere just chilling knowing that her “name is all in your mouth like liquor.” They do say all publicity is good publicity.

The WTF Moment of the Week: Math Hoffa Sucker Punching Serius Jones During Battle Footage Turns Up [VIDEO] –

Screen-Shot-2013-09-09-at-3.04.20-PM
Video of the rumored scuffle between rappers Math Hoffa and Serius Jones last week made its way to the Internets, depicting the unfortunate incident that marred the culture of battle rap. The clip shows Hoffa punching Jones onstage at the “Summer Madness 3” event in New York before security guards broke the rappers and shut the Stage 48 event down. Math Hoffa’s swift right hook landed him a ban from a coveted position in the lucrative URL league, and he took to Twitter to apologize for letting his emotions get the best of him. This wasn’t the first time Hoffa gooned out during a battle though; he punched rapper J. Dose I during a SMACK DVD 2008 battle as well. Smack White, the founder and host of the SMACK/URL battles, issued a video statement yesterday (Sept. 17)  regarding the actions of Hoffa, the ban and other matters. –

5 Fresh Minutes with ImJaeHall (@Imjaehall)

jhall

Newcomer ImJaeHall is among the crop of new artist that is actually saying something. We have been quietly watching him and after his release of his Aaliyah tribute, we could not help but want to find out more about him.. We got a few minutes with him and he had a lot to say…we respect it all!

You have an impressive sound. Who are your musical influences?

My musical influences is such a hard question to answer!  Might sound cliche, but I’m truly influenced by any genre. One day I’m playing Calvin Harris 18months album the next I’m playing The Fugees The Score. It just varies! I really can’t pin point what are my exact musical influences. It’s truly  just good music!

Explain for us, your track F.N.W.A.

F.N.W.A all came from a certain moment and a wave of emotion. You know I wasn’t brought up in that era. I didn’t know what it’s like to first hear somebody say “f*ck the police” and really mean it and not just say it because it sounded cool but say it because of what they’ve wrongfully gone through.  And that’s really how they felt! And to see how the same exact things they were talking about 10-15-20 years ago are still happening today was just a sobering thing for me. And to see it happen so close to home was just unreal meaning seeing it happen over and over again in New York City. In no way am I advocating violence but at that particular moment that’s how I felt! F*ck em! You know because they don’t give a sh*t about what happens to us. And music is my way of expressing my feelings and my thoughts at whatever time I see fit. Some people write in there journal, I create music. And me creating a song is not going to change anything we got to change our selves and how we see each other. But hey hopefully in due time. [Read more…]
